How did i get deferred?

I recently received a message that I was deferred from U Notre Dame.
At that time, I submitted a mediocre essay with 1320 SAT and 29 ACT. (I have much higher grades and much better essays now) It is indeed a poor score, so I was surprised to be notified that I got deferred. I guess my international background (lived in 7 different countries) helped a little, but isn't my score too low for a deferral cutline?

Also, what is the chance for one to get accepted after a deferral in EA?

With international students, they are always interested in how many students apply from the country of your residence, so they were probably going to delay you a little and see if there is a large turnout from you country or a small turnout from you country and see where you fit in that spectrum.

As for the chance of getting accepted, i know other people on this site have actual percents, but it really just matters how you now stack up against the RD group and how competitive you application is.

Resent blog or article outlines that ND is really pushing for an increase in international students and diversity and is bragging about it already. You represent both based on your location -Latin and International. That would be a “hook” this year. Be grateful :)

Cite sources? Latinos are pretty well represented at ND already.

Did you also have a lot of extracurriculars or service? I know that’s something ND really cares about, and that really helped me get my Early Admission.
