How did I get waitlisted?

I always thought that Lehigh was a safe match for me. I showed demonstrated interest by visiting the campus and attending an off-campus information session. Was I wrong about thinking my stats were good enough for Lehigh? Does this leave me with any hope for schools like Georgetown and Cornell?

ACT: 33
GPA: 3.85
Class Rank: Top 10%
I've taken 11 AP Classes and I'm an AP Scholar with Distinction
I have 5 leadership positions in my clubs, 2 varsity sports, and around 200 hours volunteering.
I applied to the business school, if that makes any difference.

you and I are in the same boat, buddy. Lehigh realized that we were overqualified and that we would never go there if they accepted us. So they waitlisted us.

same exact story with me, similar stats as well. anyone have some waitlist acceptance stats?

My friend and I were also waitlisted...my friend is convinced it has to do with financial reasons...we come from middle class families and would never have been able to afford the full cost so they'd rather go with the upper class who can pay...I don't know how much that's true but it's still a nice thing to tell ourselves so we don't feel that badly

I'm not sure I agree with the last post I come from a middle class family on the lower end of the spectrum and I got in Lehigh is apparently need blind because without the enormous finaid package they're offering me I would have never been able to afford it

I dont think it was financial reasons for me because I didnt even apply for financial aid.

I am just so confused and I really don't understand how I got waitlisted. I never sent in my recommendation nor did I complete the supplement. I did however, visit the campus which I believe strongly solidified my case as an extremely well qualified applicant to the University. Lehigh is my first choice and I am extremely disheartened by this news. I know the chances of being taken off the wait list are slim to none so I recognize I must look elsewhere. I hear my local community college has a pretty strong reputation. Here are my stats:

SAT:

Writing - 610
Reading - 580
Math - 720

2 APs completed , 3 Pending

Varsity Tennis
NHS
Volunteer Hours
Pep Band
Etc.

By the way, I would like everyone to know that the information posted in the above text is 100% real and not falsified except for the portion that discusses Lehigh being my first choice (it is not) and my goin to CC (i am not).

GO 'CUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Syracuse University Class of '13

Math - 710
Reading - 650
Writing - 660
SAT II Bio - 760
SAT II US History - 740
Top 10%
Multiple APs, etc
1000+ volunteer hours
Honors Societies
Extracurriculars

Waitlisted, I thought Lehigh was a match

Lehigh was my safety school, and I got waitlisted (2230, Natl AP Scholar, Natl Merit Finalist...not worth going through everything here)...I got into Northwestern the day before so I was just amused, but if I hadn't gotten any acceptances I would have been freaking the hell out. Glad I didn't take a spot from anybody else, but this way of doing business doesn't make sense to me...

Lehigh is need blind so your economic status means nothing. Lehigh is often overlooked by other schools like Hopkins and other tier one schools and obviously ivies. They realize when they are considered a safety so that's why they wait list many who are at the top of the applicant pool.

** However, Lehigh isn't need blind for international students.

Math: 670
Reading: 580
No sports. Basically no clubs at school. Eagle scout.
Top 5% (~550 students).
Honors math and science courses.

Deferred from Early Decision 1.

Accepted regular decision.

so they waitlist ppl who are overqualified? that's clever

yea and what happens when a strong applicant really happens to be interested in lehigh and doesn't consider them a safety but instead as a first choice. lehigh loses out.

you really wanted to go there?

Keep emailing them and tell them they are still your first choice and you are still interested. I hear that is the best way to get in off the waitlist.

lrh59.... if you didn't send in your supplement or recommendations, i'm sure they weren't pleased.

Math-730
Crticial Reading-700
Writing-710

SATII U.S History-770
SATII Math II-780

GPA: 3.70

4 AP classes (U.S. History, Statistics, Biology, U.S. Government)

Volunteer Hours, NMHS, Clubs etc.

I definitely wasn't overqualified. I thought I was a decent match especially considering one of my friends ED I with similar stats and got in. And it's not because of not demonstrating interest because I did visit last year.

I feel bad...some of you have much better stats than I, yet somehow I managed to squeak in :S. Maybe they pulled my name out of a hat. I guess it is possible that Lehigh will waitlist overqualified applicants. I do remember reading somewhere that Lehigh doesn't like being treated as a safety school. Good luck with the rest of your schools.

yeah like that other guy said, a buncha ppl i kno who ended up going to ivies/sub-ives ranked higher than lehigh really really liked it and would've actually gone there if their parents gave them a choice about it

yeah, im a little confused how i got waitlisted....i thought it was at least a decent match...

3.8 GPA
31ACT
great essays and recs

i dont get how i get in prefered admissions to Ross school of business at UMich (ranked 3) and then waitlisted from Lehigh's business school which is not even ranked in U.S. News?
I'm sure most of you with high stats that got waitlisted got into or will get into better schools.
