My school and I were both notified that I got to be a finalist, but I have no idea if the colleges I've applied to know. My notification letter and the National Merit website have no information about this and my guidance counselor doesn't know what to do. This information could really help me with my stretch schools. Did anyone else have this problem?

Send a note.Today. Also mention anything else that you may have achieved.

I have the feeling that it may be too late to make much difference, but you never know.

gwen, are you implying that you did much better on the PSAT than you did on the SAT? Why else would it matter to an adcom?

If you put your semi-finalist status on your application and your SAT scores were good, then the colleges will already assume that you will be a finalist. I don't think that confirming that will make any difference.

there's no reason to bother confirming. out of about 16,000 semifinalists roughly 15,000 make it to finalist. you only don't move on to finalist standing if you have bad grades, do very poorly on the SAT, or don't fill out the application.
