So how did people find out? I got in EA, but it's too expensive. I'm still sort of holding out hope that I will get one, though I'm not counting on it. When and how did people find out? Is there still a chance I might get one?

My letter of acceptance had a link to the merit scholarship letter below when I signed in on Friday the 17th. I’m assuming that this was the same for other winners as well.

From the U of Chicago site (Accepted Students):

If you filled out your financial aid application by the early application deadline of November 15th you will receive notification of your award through your UChicago account on a rolling basis through January 30th. Please be patient as the Office of College Aid processes these forms.

Thanks! So I guess there is still a chance.

When I checked on the 17th along with my financial aid information was the amount of merit scholarship.

I know this is a bit out of date, but I only received my merit scholarship offer of $5000 today… Was this because I filled out my financial aid form late? (not by the november deadline)

I actually just got mine today too, which was 5000. I didn’t hand in my things late so this just might be how they time things.

All my stuff was on time, I just got 10k offer today. How many of these do they give out, and are there any other benefits to being a university scholar?

Is there a possibility that one can get a scholarship in April/March if he/she didn’t receive one this time?

^Yes, I believe they wait until RD decisions are out to extend their final merit aid offers.

I also got 10k yesterday, so I’m wondering if they’re rolling the merit aid out in waves.

^Did you not get your financial aid estimate until yesterday? I got my financial aid estimate online two days ago but it didn’t indicate anything about scholarships… :(

^I didn’t apply for finaid.

glassesarechic: How you find out the merit scholarship, mail or online? My S didn’t apply for finaid either, but we are hoping he might be able to get some merit scholarship.

^I originally received an email saying my application status had been “updated,” so I logged on and found a letter–not unlike the acceptance letter–informing me of my scholarship. A few days later, I got the same letter via mail.

To all those still hoping for merit aid: I wouldn’t worry. I was frustrated not to have received any merit aid with my acceptance (a few friends had FB statuses along the lines of "Accepted to UChicago with $5,000 a year!!!) and was pleasantly surprised to wake up one morning to that email. Again, I think they hold off on all merit aid offers until the RD decisions are out, even for EA-ers.
