If you have read the other posts I have made to this thread, you will clearly note that I am very happy for this student to be admitted and that her leadership qualities are probably what qualified her for admission. Please do not resort to an ad hominem attack. I was just under the impression, from other extremely stat-wise impressive students on CC applying to UNC, that it would be odd for someone with comparatively bad stats (low SAT, low AP scores, etc.) to be admitted to a large public research university (which I assumed would be more numbers-oriented and less holistic in the admissions process).

UNC is very holistic. My objective stats were low (2050SAT) for out of state, but my essays and my first generation status really helped me a lot. Just because they're a big university doesn't mean they look at every student superficially.

Dang. My stats are a LOT better than hers, but I got rejected. I guess it's a lot of factors (out-of-state, international, can't pay, etc.).

UNC wants a well rounded campus. Maybe too many students with the same good stats & ccs applied instate this year and they wanted some balance. You never know the real story, she may have a learning disability, ADD or perhaps she just came across as a positive, upbeat person. I'm glad she is joining us at Carolina. Life is not made up of perfect people with perfect scores. It also gives future applicants (like my siblings) hope that they may be able to get into "their dream school" without being so intellectually magnificent.
