How did UChicago know my SSN?

I got an e-mail from UChicago today and decided to apply for their EA since their deadline has just been extended to Nov 15. But after I registered an account on their website with my email, name and birth date, all my information was like automatically filled in. Home address and telephone number I can understand, but I am totally creeped out when I found out that my SSN has already been filled out for me. I have not entered my SSN even on Naviance/Common App, so, like, how exactly did they get to know my SSN? Is it something the SAT does, giving out all your personal information to random colleges "for admission purposes"?

colleges are like gods they know it all yo — jk, im not sure but i wouldnt be surprised

Do you have autofill enabled on your computer? It could come from your computer, not theirs. Did you, for example, apply for a passport recently?

@Periwinkle I do have autofill enabled but I think Chrome is smart enough not to memorize SSN from the user… But anyways I’ll clear all the userdata from Chrome just be safe. Thank you for suggesting this possibility.

Is it possible that you used your social security for the SAT or ACT?

Chrome is NOT smart enough to differentiate like that. I am 99% sure the autofill came from your computer, not from the university already knowing about you.

Be advised that UChicago is an applicant whore (can I say that here?). They solicit an application from everyone so that they can reject almost everyone, thereby making their selectivity numbers look awesome. Don’t play their game. Or do, if it’s a school that you’re really interested in.
