How did you afford University of Toronto as an international student?

Hey guys,

I’ve just been accepted to the life sciences program at UT and it’s my dream college, but the letter I received estimated the cost to be around $56,000. My family is middle class and doesn’t get lots of financial aid but still $56000 per year is way more than we can afford, especially while my brother also attends university. I know there are three scholarships, two of which you’re automatically considered for as an international applicant, but I didn’t receive either and my school didn’t send in my nomination on time for the other one. My question is how did you manage to attend UT without these scholarships? Did you get a residency or dual citizenship? Does FAFSA make special consideration?

Thanks!

Are you a US citizen? The FAFSA is a free application for federal student aid. Low income US students who file it may get a Pell Grant of up to $6k/year. They can also get the ~$5500/year federal student loan. Did you file the FAFSA? If so, what’s your EFC?

Did you get accepted to any affordable schools?

You cannot “get” dual citizenship unless you or a parent was born in Canada. If you are a US citizen then UToronto is out of reach.
