Like, did you just list your favorite things (i like this, this, this, and this)?

Also, for the hero and historical moment questions, do we have to explain why?

Like, did you just list your favorite things (i like this, this, this, and this)?

Also, for the hero and historical moment questions, do we have to explain why?

I answered some of the questions in a pretty straightforward way, but on others I kind of just joked around. I figured, there’s no way I can provide a sincere answer without coming across as trite, so I might as well make them funny. (like the ones dealing with most inspirational person in your life, historical moment you wished you were at, five-word description of yourself, etc)

Not that I would recommend everyone to do so, but it worked for me. If you do go for funny, make sure you don’t overdo it.

I see. Anyone else?

Some I answered with just a word or two (or five on the adjectives that describe yourself). For others, I wrote a few sentences. You can definitely have a little fun with some of them. Just make sure they are truthful. (For “How do you rejuvenate yourself?”, I answered “Gatorade”).

lol @ gatorade; for the rejuvenation question I wrote Halo 3 marathons. Who can sleep while the flood takes over?

I have a question: on the website it says respond with approximately 300 characters or less, but then it says ‘in two lines or less’, so which one do i stick to? how are you supposed to answer questions like ‘how did you spend your last two summers’ in two lines??

ohhh sorry i just saw a similar thread
question answered now

Olivya would you mind posting the link to that thread?

This link works: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/stanford-university/430816-stanford-short-answers.html

Basically, up to 300 characters is OK because the printed version uses a smaller font size than your standard 12 pt.

Thanks! 10 char

AAHHh i have some more questions… for the “qualities you admire” question, can I write about what kind of people I admire? Like, instead of listing quality, quality quality, can I say “people who ____”?

And for the hero one, do they want just one person + why or more than one?

I was really casual about my answers. For the short short ones, I just listed off a lot of them- since that’s what it really asked.

They’re looking at the printed version, correct? So I just typed it up so it looked alright on the pdf format.

did most of you answer yours truthfully and candidly?

Mine are all very honest and straightfoward, and truly reflect who I am. However, I heard from someone who got in that its necessary to kind of “mold” the answers to the point you can sell yourself.

Whats your take on this?

Yepp, my answers were honest. Deliberated and carefully chosen words, but honest nonetheless. Everyone’s should be.

The roommate one is actually pretty fun!

I’m having fun with it. I’m wondering if I should be writing more about my “intellectual vitality” in this essay though…

I always get thrown off by the questions that ask about favorite books and movies… I always feel like there are so many people out there who will have the exact same list…

Just answer honestly. I don’t actually think those questions matter that much, they just want to get a rough sketch of you and your interests.

Are we allowed to post that part of the app? If so, I don’t think it would be a bad idea if some of us put ours up so others can see them.

@bobob123: what kind of list of movies/books did you have in mind? Are you thinking classical music and Ben Hur? I put Billy Joel and Monty Python movies on my app, but I’d be curious to see what other people put as well.

My son put down that the author of Calvin and Hobbes was one of his favorite authors. He got into Stanford early action.

One of the things I’ve always thought about Stanford (son is there now and lots of exposure to the kids and events) is that many of the students have a marvelous, irreverent sense of humor and don’t take themselves too seriously (think about the Band
). (Of course, there are the incredibly serious kids too, I’m not trying to overgeneralize) Fresnomom, that just fits right in!

i honestly dont think who u put down as a author will get u in/rejected. I was perfectly honest, i dont care if they approve. For music, i put T.I.
