I'm a bit curious. How did you decide to which school you will attend? Let's say you got accepted to all the schools you've applied. What made you prefer one school over the other? Is it because of the school's reputation? Does it have a better program for your major? Is it because of the area? Please share your thoughts. Thanks!

Reputation, area

I think most people usually have first, second, third choices u know

I am simple.... close to home!"
even though I enjoy living a dorm life, but my family can't afford it, and I need to choose some where cheap. Davis is pretty cheap. Of course, the best is UCB, I live in Oakland, so, it's just 20mins away.
However, I have a hard time deciding between San Diego and Davis. San Diego is much more expensive than Davis, but it seems like they have better biology program!!! so, choose for me if I don't get in other school

go to san diego. of course davis is a model college town so you'll get that experience but the campus and weather in san diego is great. i'm just saying this though since I'll probably end up going there. don't let me down la and berk!

thanks for the advice! San Diego $600 room, Davis <$400 .....
anyway, just received the big envelop, still excited

Order of importance: Program, Location, Reputation

I want to go to the school that has the best program for my major. Location is also important because I'd like to live somewhere that doesn't get too hot or cold during the day. Reputation isn't that big of a deal because I can get a good education in many places. I think how we apply ourselves in college will be more important than it's name. I have friends who graduated from UCLA and Berkeley but failed to find jobs in their fields because they didn't apply themselves enough in college. Regardless of where I go, I wouldn't want to be in that situation.

I've been accepted to three out of the four UCs I applied to so far. I'm going ahead and including UCLA on the accepted list since I logged into MyUCLA this morning and it had goods news for me. The fourth (Cal) is pending.

Reputation comes in last place for me. I understand the concept of "It's not where you go, but what you do when you get there."

I also have the added element of my fiance (wife by the time of fall semester) teaches elementary school and would have to find a job where we go. And what with the budget cuts and all, that might not be too easy.

I'm going to stick with my original plan of visiting all of the schools and then go from there.

I know most people here are younger and probably haven't had the opportunity in life to go house-hunting yet. You view a lot of different places and it goes like this: "Yeah, I can see myself living here...this is pretty good." then the next place "Nope!" ...next place "Eh...not really, I still like the first one best."...next place "Yes, this is it hands down. I felt it as soon as I walked in the door."

A lot of times as soon as you get there you just know 100%, without a doubt.

Now, I'm hoping it works the same way with selecting a UC. :)

Congrats everyone and good luck if you're still waiting on Cal!

It's the same thing for me and my husband. We both applied and got accepted to the same schools (yep, we're bot CCC transfers, in fact, that's where we met.) And we're in the process of deciding now. We're listing all the pros and cons of each school. We try to look at different factors that could affect us in the longer run.

To everybody, congrats in your admissions and good luck in your final decisions!

sweet.......

Edward04.. UCLA and Berkeley tend to have vision blurring effects... The expression "prestige beer goggles" has been coined. Be wary...

If accepted, I'm choosing Cal because I will only have to move across the Bay, it is the best bang for my buck, I have a friend there now, and a great deal of my friends graduated from there.

If not accepted, well, I dunno. I will be choosing between UofU, Mills College, and SDSU. I've submitted my SIR to SDSU, but now I'm re-thinking that decision. Great weather and beautiful campus, yes, but I think it is a little beneath me academically. Mills is expensive and doesn't offer my major, but on the other hand I could graduate from there in 3 years with a masters in Public Policy - 4+1mpp - and will still be in the Bay Area. But in all likelihood, if Cal won't have me, I'll go to the U of Utah since they have a great geography department and I can live for very cheap with my parents in their newly remodeled house. Plus I signed up for the U's geog newsgroup so I get colloquium, internship and job notices every day, and they all look enticing. :)

(I'm kicking myself for not applying to UCSB or UCD. UCLA never was in the cards because I cannot imagine myself ever living in Los Angeles.)

It was pretty simple. UCLA offered me the most money and closest proximity to my now fianc
