This semester I have been extremely stressed out because none of Co-Op companies recruit Chem. E students with F1 vi sa. I am currently junior and I have to find internship or Coop alternative so that I will be a competitive candidate for job prospectives after graduation.
How did you find internship/Coop opportunities?
Thanks
Are you looking on Indeed and Monster? What about your school’s career fair?
Is that a sarcasm or…real thing?
For the career fair I missed it because of the classes
What? Those are both job sites. Google them.
Those two sites and the career fair are the three biggest places for finding internships. Start applying now. Many companies began recruiting for internships during the fall. I got mine over winter break.
@mom2collegekids had a son at Bama in ChemE, I think. Know of any Alabama-specific job search opportunities?
Ohhhh i thought Indeed and Monsters as one phrase. Yeah I did Indeed but many of them are not open to F1 students
Yeah, seems like many companies don’t want to expend that extra time and effort. You’ll have to search like twice as hard to make up for it.
Checked this out? https://career.sa.ua.edu/crimsoncareers/
Note: And if you go on the Engineering Students subreddit at all, you should already know that many students send out dozens of applications without getting interviews. So don’t stop at five or ten and think that’s enough. Make a good resume (I know a bit about those so if you want advice on a draft of a resume, blank out your personal information and send me a link), have a standard cover letter you can slightly edit for each position, and apply apply apply.
My B-I-L is a chemical engineer. He works for a company that has a number of contracts with the federal government. He is not allowed to employ (intern) students who are not US citizens. You may want to try smaller start up companies by asking your professors.
