I’d like to know: how did you guys find your passion? I know that there’s been threads about this before, but it’d be interesting to hear what your stories are. I’ve dabbled my hands in a lot of things, but nothing seems to click yet. Clubs are a choice too, but they’re sort of out because all the clubs at my school meet every 2 months (if at all; I think sketching club met only three times this semester…)
Basically, please share your story on how you got your passion (or if you’re still searching
) and if you have any advice for me. I know the answer will be get out of the comfort zone and look for it yourself, but any other ideas would be a nice addition.
For me, it was one of those things where it just came to me, and I’m not really sure how. My passion is writing. Since I was little I enjoyed writing, but until about 7th grade it wasn’t something I really considered as a career until someone mentioned that I might like to become a journalist. I did a little research on the job and decided I wanted to be a journalist; ever since then, I’ve stuck with the idea.
I don’t think you necessarily need to get out of your comfort zone; in my case, it was something that I’d been doing for a long time but just didn’t realize how much I enjoyed it. So maybe your passion is something you already do but you just haven’t had that moment of realization. Or maybe it’s something you haven’t yet discovered and participated in at all. For some people, there’s an event in their life that causes them to find their calling; I know quite a few people who were completely lost on what they wanted to do in their life until something happened and they just knew what they wanted to do.
ooh, that’s nice… I used to like writing, before my mum came in and told me to write a book (literally; she had an impression it would look great on the college apps)… Now I somewhat abhor the idea of writing for fun.
I really like visual arts/drawing/painting. I feel like when you say “passion”, most people automatically think of art or sports. I’ve also been drawing ever since I could remember. Recently I’ve taken a lot of interest in law and political related things. I don’t wish to pursue art in the future and I’m still searching for a passion. The most helpful thing for me, like you said, were high school clubs. As a freshman, I joined so so many clubs. I think once you find something that you really like, get involved with it and it might become a passion.
