How did you get an interview?

How did you guys get your Johns Hopkins interview? Did you request one or did someone just contact you?

you have to request one by calling the office of undergraduate admissions. that was a few months ago though, there aren't any more right now.

Again an interview is for informational purposes only and is not required nor do they improve your chances in the admissions process.

roberthhid, I'd have to disagree with your statement. Interviews allow the college to see a side of you they normally can't see on paper. Also, it shows interest to the college, so they do improve your chances. However, not having an interview does not hurt your chances.

From Admissions Daniel:
"Interviews are not a required element of the application to Johns Hopkins. In fact, interviews are informational and non-evaluative. Unfortunately all interview requests for on-campus interviews needed to be submitted prior to December 1st. Please know that if you did not interview you will not be at a disadvantage in the admissions process."

Roberthhid is correct. Hopkins believes that their essay topics are unique enough to bring out the "side of you they normally can't see on paper".

Interest...well that can be shown in many other ways too.

i still think that interviews can still benefit in some aspects =/ but not having one is not going to hurt either

to say that they're 100% not evaluative seems strange, but the interviews really are just for the applicant to learn more about the school. going out of your way to schedule or to have an interview is pointless if the only, or even main reason is thinking it will benefit your admission chances ...

"Interviews are an optional part of the admissions process. More informative than evaluative, they provide prospective students and applicants with an opportunity to meet individually with one of our student interviewers."

Interviews at Hopkins are by request only.

The last day for on-campus interviews was application deadline day, January 1. As for alumni off-campus interview requests we are no longer accepting new requests.

And as far as Hopkins interview policies, I think they are well explained on the web site, my blog, on past CC posts - and even in some quotes mentioned on this thread.

I know Johns Hopkins' interviews are non-evaluative, but is some sort of report sent in anyway? I could have sworn I read this elsewhere, but I can't seem to find it again. Regardless, I'm asking just because I want to know whether or not I should bring a resume to my interview, which I understand is often expected.

Yeah there is definiitely a report that goes in your file. I remember my interviewer had 2 full pages of notes after the interview, and he told me he would need those notes for the write up after.

i requested for an alumni interview just a few days before it became unavailable. i recieved an email [shortly after requesting an interview] saying that i would recieve an interview assignment within a couple of weeks.. i haven't heard from them since. will i still recieve an interview assignment or probably not?

Tigbao, my son also made his request for an alumni interview just before the request deadline (back in November I think). He also got an e-mail saying he would be contacted in a couple weeks. He heard nothing until a couple weeks ago when the admissions office e-mailed him the name of an interviewer who lived in our town, saying the man would contact my son directly to set something up. It took until last week for that contact to happen and my son had his interview yesterday. The interviewer told my son he had to get his report filed with the admissions office by the end of February. So, if you have not heard anything yet you may want to inquire. It is possible there is no one available in your area to interview.

echeme:
Yes, after an interview is completed by a student admissions representative (on-campus) or alumni admissions representative (off-campus), an interview write-up is completed and that is added to a student's application file. These write-ups are more summaries of the discussion where the interviewer can record what the interviewee's answers were and what other information was talked about. They are as I said more summaries than evaluations.

tigbao:
Send an email to NASC@jhu.edu if you are having problems setting up your alumni interview. I know the organizers of the program were inundated with requests and are still making assignments and addressing problems.

thanks for your help :]

i had my interview today. apparently, i requested one way back in december, and i got a call from jhopkins yesterday about fitting me in one of their interview day, which was today.
