A part-time while still in HS, I mean....cause I want to find a job, and don't really know how to go about it. Where do you work? What age were you when you got it? How did you get your job ?

Last year I had a job for 2 weeks. It was my first job and I was 14. I worked at a law firm filing/copying/helping the secretaries. I did absolutely nothing to earn my $10 per hour. How did I get such an easy job? My dad’s been a lawyer in this law firm for like 30+ years. Connections, connections, connections.

I worked at a law firm as my first job as well and I got it through some student-jobs program. I too worked as an office gopher: filing, cleaning and coffee-ing. =( It was fun though and the pay was great! 12/hr

My summer job last year, I just applied. It was a paid internship and I made a lot of money, cool.

This year, I have a job where I work two hours on Saturdays. If you miss work while at a math contest or taking the SAT or ACT, no one cares. You get paid $15/hr and all I do is sit there and say do this math problem or translate that sentence (Latin). It’s Latin I and Pre Algebra, so it’s really easy.

^Millancad, are you class of 2011? Where did you find a paid internship the summer after your freshman year?!

About this law firm thing, would it be weird for me to call a law firm without any connections and ask if there are any job opportunities for a 15 year old?

I walked up to Sbarro, got an app, filled out the app, talked with the manager, and got a job!

I don’t think there’s any harm in calling.

I applied, called back, and eventually got an interview and got hired.

I’m class of 2010. So it was after my sophomore year, which is the youngest that organization takes people.

Considering that my best friend’s parents are both lawyers who own their own firm, I’m now wondering if I should consider this law firm gopher thing. I think one of my father’s friends is a judge or something too.

I’m looking for a job too.

Is is really pretentious if your resume sounds like an adult’s? Like mine is 3 pages with a cover sheet.

i think a mature resume will help, not hurt.

I’ve never had a job. I’m applying for a paid internship this summer.

Try packing what there is into 1 page. What is most of the stuff on there?

aiginqf-- what job are you trying to get that you even need a traditional “resumee?” i mean, you’re a teenager you can’t expect to get some dream job. plus it’s a recession, laid off people are going to be taking the crap jobs that normally would be reserved for younger people.

"Is is really pretentious if your resume sounds like an adult’s? Like mine is 3 pages with a cover sheet. "

I’m assuming you’re in high school, so how do you have a 3 page resume? And besides, a typical high schooler’s job doesn’t require a resume.

Just ask around to see if they’re hiring. Then ask for an application, fill it out, and BAM.

Make sure you’re super nice when asking for the application (my friend didn’t get a job because apparently my boss thought he sounded somewhat like a jerk when asking for the app itself). Introduce yourself and tell the boss something about yourself so she’ll remember you.

Also, the BEST way to get a job is to ask one of your friends who works to put in a good word for you. That’s how I got my job! :)

^ditto. ask all of your working friends.

I applied to food lion and they asked for a resume.

Here’s the layout of my resume:

1st Page: Cover letter
2nd Page: Objective, experience
3rd Page: Education, abbreviated Academic Organizations/recognition, abbreviated Personal Organizations/Recognition

Because I typically apply for jobs that are big on customer relations, I include my positions that include public speaking, organizational budgeting, working on teams (I’m not listing any clubs), and my one internship. I cut out a volunteer section to save space.

I applied, sent in my resume

and sent the lady three e-mails.

and then she finally called me back

and VOILA job.

i work at aeropostale, i’m eighteen. and it’s my first job.

I didn’t have to do anything really. I walked into the store, I was shopping, and one of the managers came up to me asking if I went to school around here. I was recruited to work at Hollister, applied to be a model (after some of my wonderful friends told me…“its the worst job ever”, “its not like they’d put you in the front”, and “they’re reallyyy picky about the models”, even though they only recruit you if you have the look to be a “model”), went for a group interview (easyy, just had to be outgoing, smile, make eye contact, and not seem racist, crazy, or completely in lack of social skills). Two days later I got a call and was hired =] Fun job, awesome people, and I really dont have to do anything!
