I've spent a lot of sifting through various threads in this forum and I am really confused about the general consensus towards Barron's Math.

In the thread 'tips from a 2400er' the poster .Masochist stated that the key to success is just practice practice practice - regardless of book and that though other books may be less efficient - it's better than nothing and that the 8 practice tests within the blue book don't last very long.

I am bad at Math. I did the January SAT for the first time ever and got a 650 in Math. I really really need to get my math to at least a 700 and there just aren't enough questions in the blue book. I've gone through it in prep for the previous SAT I did and I am planning on going through it again.

But still, I need more math practice. On a side note, one thing I noticed, was that the questions on the SAT math section seemed bit easier than those in the Barrons textbooks. But I don't know - I'm merely speculating and thinking out loud months after a very mind numbing test and I need more opinions.

For those who upped their math score a significant amount - did you do this by merely going through the BB over and over again? Or did you use those other books?

Get Gruber’s Complete SAT Guide. I ordered it from Amazon. After just two weeks working with it, I scored an 800 Math on the January SAT - a 100 point jump from my May '09 score (700)!

^In my experience, Barron’s is pretty bad, especially for AP prep.

In December, my math was a 630. In May I scored a 670. That’s not much of an increase, but I’m so bad at math so any increase is welcome. I’m not sure if it was because of practice or the fact that I liked my math tutor for the May SAT better than my December SAT prep teacher. I’m having trouble raising my math score as well. I need a 700, and I feel like I have to sell my soul XD. I have three different PR prep books, but I’m really iffy about working out of them. Idk about anyone else, but there is a different feel to PR’s math questions.

whattttttttttttttttt?? I thought that the Barrons SAT Math section is one of the most comprehensive section for review? I know Grubers is also good, which I have, but right now I was thinking of finishing up Barrons and then blowing through Grubers?

broscaretolax, use Grubers and than take practice tests to improve you math score. Barron’s is unnecessary. It is like someone who gives a speech about Direct Hits and suddenly digressing from the topic and talks having sexual relations with his sister.
