How did you prepare for the GMAT?

For those of you who are GMAT experts out there, how did you prepare for the GMAT?

Thanks!

I was aiming for a top 10 program, and had been out of school for a while, with a goal of 700+. I took a Kaplan course. I don’t recommend it, they are designed for average students. Kaplan included a book of formulas which was pretty useful. I found the Kaplan books to be helpful at the beginning. They had a lot of practice materials on-line but the quality was so-so. I also bought a number of books/online access from several vendors, plus the official books. I really liked the Manhattan series, it seems like it was designed for the more advanced student. I studied a few hours a day for about 4 months, eventually bringing up my diagnostic scores from about 600 to 760. I actually got a 740 on the test (98% at the time). Advice: Don’t go to the test hungry- it lasts 4 hrs! Also, don’t take the test until you are 100% ready.

I’ve heard that the Manhattan on-line classes are pretty good.

You are better off with an on-line format because that is how the test is administered, but books are OK.

I would start off with the Kaplan premier/Princeton, then official, then finish with Manhattan and official tests online.

Many MBA schools accept GRE now, that might be more versatile for a dual-masters if you are doing one.

@TooOld4School wow - awesome analysis! Thanks!
