Carnegie Mellon is one of the universities that considers applicant interest in their decisions. For future applicants, could you let us know how you showed interest in Carnegie Mellon and whether or not you were accepted? Possible ways you may have showed interest (beyond sending in your $$ and application) is to have gone on a campus tour & information session, written to specific professors, visited labs, written to your admissions rep, sent flowers (lol), called admissions to discuss various issues, etc.

So, how did you show interest? Were you accepted?

Sleeping bag weekend (look it up on CMU’s page), opt to participate in an optional interview, keep in touch by emailing, are the main ways to demonstrate interest

I participated in the interview, but was unfortunately wait listed.

I attended precollege, had an interview with an admissions rep, had an alumni interview, and talked about interdisciplinary studies/collab, school specific events, and buildings in the “Why CMU” essay. There were an additional two supplement essays/essay questions with the design portfolio and I felt that those were pretty CMU-esque, though that has to do more with portfolio review than the admissions office. I included some process work in my portfolio, which, according to a current student, professors love.

I was accepted into the School of Design, Dietrich, and BHA.

My brother went there so maybe my interest was implied? I didn’t do an actual visit because I had already been there three times. Eh who knows?

Campus visit, sleeping bag weekend, applied early (not ED, just early time-wise), visited spring carnival last year, etc… My dad is an alum so I have been there PLENTY.

I got into CIT (all majors), MCS, and the special sciences/humanities joint program.

Campus visit, interview with an admission officer (that went really well imo), on-campus information session, applied ED

Got admitted to MCS Early Decision for Math.

Applied EDII, went to a tour sessions, applied for the college during summer thing, my school’s been part of some outreach programs.

Got accepted.

Visited the campus, went to the local interest meeting when an Admin rep came to my area, did an interview, expressed my complete love of CMU in my CMU supplement essay.

accepted ED1 to CIT for Materials Science and Engineering

In addition to the other good answers, I expressed an interest in playing a varsity sport and communicated a lot with the coach.
