I got 540 for Wiring section and 8 for essay. I heard Writing score can easily bumped up.
Can you post some strategies or study methods?

practice tests…

my first SAT i had a 550 (9) on my writing.

second SAT, i just said screw writing. i wound up with a 640 (9)

third (and final) SAT, i looked over the gruber’s writing section. got a 740 (12).

I didn’t really study for it, but I did go over some of the idioms that were a bit tricky. I Made a few careless mistakes after thinking over some of the questions but still pulled out a 720 with a 10 essay.

I would suggest Practice tests, but also a prep book since there aren’t any explanations in the Blue Book. A prep book will also go over all needed grammar rules for the test.

For the part where you have to find a problem in the sentence (words are underlined with A,B,C, etc.) I looked at the words that weren’t underlined to help a bit. You can get some of the trickier problems by doing this. Also I would just isolate parts of the sentence for questions that were a bit harder, and made sure that specific word fit in.

I studied for it, using a book called (I think) “Grammar for the SAT/ACT.” It was extremely helpful. I remember subject-verb agreement (ie “anyone…they’re” (wrong) vs. “anyone…he’s/she’s” or “nouns…is” (wrong) vs “nouns…are” and “everyone run” (wrong) vs. “everyone ran”) coming up a lot on the test. I think grammar is the one thing that any grammar review book would work, as long as it explains the rules clearly.

I think I really need extra prep book

^
Practice will help a lot. I took the SAT twice sophomore year (I was applying to a school that I didn’t get into). The first time I made a 530 in writing, 2 months later and with no prep I got a 640 (With the same low essay score). Don’t lose hope.
