How did YOUR interview go?

To those who have already had interviews, how did they go?

What went well? What could you work on? What kinds of questions did your interviewer ask?

Any advice for other applicants?

I had mine this afternoon. It was with an older gentleman who attended Harvard College. He worked as a corporate lawyer for Kodak for a while, and is now a professor at Rochester Institute of Technology.

The interview went pretty well. It lasted about an hour and a half at a local Starbucks. He seemed interested in me, although he didn't have too much of a personality. I made him laugh a few times (in a good way). Both his children attended Harvard, too.

I don't know what advice to give. I guess the typical show up on time, be polite, etc. Most of all, don't show nervousness (even if there is a lot of it). Make solid eye contact. Be genuinely interested in the conversation. This wil make the interviewer want to stay longer and hopefully get to know you a little deeper. Best of luck!

I did ok...nothing bad, but probably didn't show too much...and I didn't say everything I wanted to...because I was nervous...oops...

my interview was okay. he only asked one "question": tell me about yourself. every other question stemmed from that; however, my classmate's interview was a totally different story. the interviewer asked him "what happened in 9th grade english?" "why aren't you taking an APs?" "i just interviewed (name of another classmate)... tell me 3 positive things about him." needless to say, he's already in for crew, but nonetheless, he got grilled.

Mine went pretty well actually, bit short though. I had it quite a while back, being an Int'l, with a lady at the local branch of the KSG. No really tough questions, we talked quite a bit about my passions, Debating etc. I suppose it was a fairly in-depth interview in that she was very frank about Harvard's failings as well, and did give me the 'whole picture'. Definitely not as bad as it could have been

Interviews aren't available where I live. :( Oh well.

do the interviewers usually ask the 'why harvard' question?

mine did 10 char

ninjaturtle,

wat'd you answer?

my interview:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?p=3178021#post3178021

My interviewer and I got off on a tangent about traveling, as it ended up that we both loved to travel...she told me about all the opportunities at Harvard to travel around for free in Europe and stuff. I hope its not too bad that we spent that much time talking about that. Also she was impressed that I was 1st in my class; she said she had never met anyone who was first in their class before. I that that was a bit strange, considering that she went to Harvard????

Mine also asked me the "why harvard" question...and because I really have no idea what I want to do, I just had to say that it left me the best opportunities once I did decide. What else can you say to that?

Well, I had my interview with a local attorney on November 6 which lasted for about 90 minutes. Overall, I thought it went very well.

I really don't remember him asking many questions, because he immediately made a remark about hearing that I participated in Mock Trial (we ranked 4th in the state) which he judges, and oddly enough, his law partner is the regional coordinator of Mock Trial, and an alumni of my high school.

From there, we talked about the Yale Physics Olympics, CSPA, JEA, National Honor Society, the influx of Albanians in the area (I happen to be Albanian) and even Lithuanian cuisine.

Overall, I thought the interview went very well, seeing as he kept me for a feasible amount of time (I think he was late for a few appointments) and I appreciated the fact that he said he liked my philosophies on life and that he said to call him within the next few days if I wanted him to add anything else to my report.

ive had two--on campus and alumni.

they both went pretty well, about 90 minutes each. Neither were overly formulaic, and I didn't get the "why harvard' question. However, what i think was a big help was the fact that i brought an activities summary sheet and a transcript. neither of the people i interviewed with had seen my application, so that was a big help. i also had a substantial list of questions, which i think impressed them.

they were fun.

thanks for the link & info.

DH9800, what types of questions did you ask?

Yeah, I second MFB's question about your questions :-p

Ahhh my interviewer called tonight (during the new episode of my favorite tv show!).

We're interviewing IN MY HOUSE.

It seems kind of awkward, knowing that my family will be eavesdropping.

candlefungus...why in your house? how did that happen :) ?

I DON'T KNOW I'M COMPLETELY FREAKING OUT.

I told her that my house was actually quite hard to find and that we could meet at a Starbucks if that was easier for her, but she insisted on coming to my house!

Does anyone have tips for interviews IN YOUR OWN HOME?

:-$

"Does anyone have tips for interviews IN YOUR OWN HOME?"

Make sure it's clean? lol. Be waiting for her outside, and be very hospitable. Have tea/coffee or some kind of snack. Seems awkward for an interview in YOUR house, but try to make it to your benefit, I guess. She obviously already feels comfortable by wanting to go to your house, so that's a good start.
