How different is the CS and CE freshman course schedule?

I was rejected from my first choice major (CE) and admitted to second choice major (CS). However I still have a slight inclination towards engineering. I would really be grateful if someone could explain to me how different are the freshmen classes for the two majors? Are most of the classes the same?

YOu could pull both degree plans from the website and figure it out that way. Its almost impossible to answer this without knowing what college credits you have so far. Are you entering with no credit or are you practically a sophomore … or somewhere in between?

Oh, I am extremely sorry for having missed out that important piece of information. I am a high school senior admitted to the class of 2015.

The freshman classes are completely different. It isn’t until later that you get some overlap.

What I meant is how many college credits will you have when you enter UT?

Some have lots and lots of credits in the “basics” that are also called the “core curriculum”.

If don’t have college credits already then you will work on the core curriculum in your freshman year, and basics/core apply to either degree.

If you have earned credit for the basics/core (via AP credit or dual enrollment) then there MAY be less overlap.

Print the degree plans and all will be cleared up.

I think he was referring to the major specific classes.

Same here sd0027. Got into CS, want to do ME.

I just did a little research and on pg 163 of the coursebook, and here is what you need for an internal transfer.

Completion of at least twenty-four semester hours of coursework in residence at the University

A cumulative in-residence grade point average of at least 2.50.

Completion of Mathematics 408D and Physics 303K and 103M, or their equivalents.

Now for CS, all 4 of those courses are required for you too. So it seems to me like it will be pretty easy to transfer as long as you keep your grades up.

@Jettski1 -That was precisely what I was looking for. Thanks a lot.

One more thing, could someone please confirm this fact that 90% of the internal transfers to Cockrell must be Texas Residents. Is this correct? I remember reading it somewhere on their website.

If this is true, then for non-texas residents, internal transfer is going to take a lot more than just good grades.

That is true. I’m pretty sure that by law, only 10 percent of their internal transfers can come from OOS students (which sucks for me). It was in the coursebook on pg 163 as well. That thing has some useful info.
