First, make sure you are familiar with the requirements for GT

[Transfer Selection Process | Admission](<a href=“Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Undergraduate Admission”>Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Undergraduate Admission)

BUT, my main piece of advice is to start UGA with an open mind. You may find that you actually enjoy the campus, classes, peers you meet etc . Get involved in campus.

Select classes you think you will enjoy, listen to your adviser. Be careful of “weed out” classes, especially in Math and sciences.

Enjoy your freshman year and after that if you still want to transfer, go for it!

Care to elaborate on your weed out class comment? Just looking for a little more info. Thanks in advance.

“Weed out” classes refer to classes that people think are exceptionally hard, to the point where people think they make it hard on purpose to “weed” out people - to make them drop the program. Eg, freshman chem is considered a “weed out” course for science majors and for pre-professional students (pre dent, pre med, etc). Basically, people take the course, find that it’s hard, so they drop their program tracts and do something different.

Unfortunately, weed out classes aren’t something you can avoid because most weed out classes are the very first classes people have to take.

UGA has plenty of resources to help you succeed. If you’re not doing well, you need to seek out those resources (your professor, tutoring, other classmates, etc). You shouldn’t let one class decide your future.
