...to achieve a 3.6 as a north campus major? I want to hear everyones opinion.

i personally don't think it'd be that hard... but then again, i'm a south campus major who's been brainwashed into believing north campus is a lot easier...

If I were a south campus major, I'd be pulling like a 2.7. :P

....which isn't all that bad
college really lowers your expectations =/

Really depends on your work habits, study ethics, your major .. but some North Campus classes have ridiculous averages or B+ or A-.

Well, I can tell you that there are at least 3 professors on the north end of campus that are ridiculously easy i.e. Ruiz, Brenner and Corey. By the way, these 3 professors happen to all teach history. I guess history is one major where achieving a 3.6 is probable? As for the rest of the NC professors, their work can be a bit tedious / time consuming / broad. I'm particularly speaking of poli sci professors and what I've experienced thus far.

Basically, the reason for this thread is to determine where I stand compared to my peers in terms of my GPA. What's the top 75%? 50%? 25%?

What GPA are you science majors pulling?

I've only just started the history dept and it seems a 3.6 is very doable
i believe the avg for history is like 3.3

North Campus students have it easier .. because their grade and work consists of papers and minimal examinations.

There is no pressure in writing papers - it is a 'battle' between you and yourself. You pick when to start and finish, and it is YOUR fault if you start late and do a poor job. Generally from what I hear, one can slack off until Week 4-5 (when the midterm comes up).

On the other hand, a south campus student must be consistent in his/her studies.

Onto another point, history and theatre courses have professors whose difficulty ratings are incredibly low ..

Anyhow, the North Campus average GPA should be around a 3.1-3.2, while for South Campus, the average GPA is around 2.8-2.9.

I think it really depends largely on the major. Obviously, English isn't going to have the same rigorousness as economics.

I think that a 3.6 in econ is actually a pretty difficult undertaking, depending on your strengths and weaknesses. In poli sci, it largely depends on the concentration. Comparative is less intensive than methodology, for example.

What did you graduate with, UCLAri?

Oh, let's just say that I did pretty well. Well above a 3.6, at any rate.

~3.8 gpa, Chem major. Lowest grade I've gotten so far in any Chem class is a B+ which was a graduate course.

I think it's safe to say that you're an exception, rushrules1. ;)

With a GPA that high for a SC major, no graduatecollege can deny you. If they do, I call conspiracy.

Whoa... did you take QM(113A) after 20A?

Thanks. I don't think I'm brighter than anyone else though, admittedly, I work hard at it. But not to the point where I don't enjoy other aspects of life. Drinking copious amounts of caffeine helps too....yay Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf!

Haha, a friend of mine is also a Chem major and pulling > 3.9.

Umm, not yet. I suppose I could have since I finished the required Math and Physics series a year early. Another friend of mine is taking it this quarter and dying. There are assigned problems due just about every lecture as well as homework every week. I think the midterms are 3 hours long o_O

Getting a 3.6 GPA as a South Campus major is high enough to qualify you for some of the combined BS/MS programs at UCLA, reserved for "exceptional students". Getting a 3.6 GPA as a North Campus major, on the other hand, isn't a large achievement -- in fact, you would be rejected from the Communications program.

CHEM 113A isn't hard. CHEM ENG 101B is hard.

Edit: The midterms for CHEM 113A are 2 hours long but he extended it up to 2h 30m if I remember right. You really didn't need 2 hours. I did well (above 90%) on the midterm.

Bryan have you taken brenner and are you taking corey for the spring.

do you guys know what's the average GPA for biz econ majors here at ucla? I think the GPA required to apply to the major as an undergrade is 3.3, right..?
