How difficult is admission for 2nd bachelor's with a low GPA?

I'm applying to a couple of engineering programs for a second Bachelor's in order to change my career path. My first degree was in a rigorous natural science discipline from a state school and I came out with a >2.5 GPA.

My question is: Do admissions boards judge second degree-seeking applicants any different than transfer students?

Personally, I think the fact that I have a Bachelor's shows I can complete a degree program, but I'm just curious if that is at all relevant to admissions departments and if they just see me as a grade-point average.

Side question: I took the GRE before I decided to get a second BS. I did pretty darn well on them. If I submit my scores along with my undergraduate application, will they be considered at all?

Thanks

with the crush of the echo-boom filling colleges, not that many publics offer 2nd bachelor degrees anymore or admission is very competitive. One back-door you can look into is applying for a MS degree; admission at some schools, such as the Cal-State schools, is relatively easy and you take the undergrad classes that are pre-reqs to the grad classes and then finish the MS in another year or two (which is a pretty good degree to have to enter engineering anyway).

Well, let’s just say I don’t get in. What would be the best course of action? Should I retake courses at a CC?

If you don’t get in on the first round, pop by your local community college and talk with the admissions counselors about their AA/AS degree in pre-engineering and about articulation agreements with 4-year engineering programs. You might be able to complete the pre-engineering coursework that you are missing in a couple of semesters and transfer directly into engineering at a cooperating institution.
