Ah but if you’re weighted the other way, toward humanities, you may find you can skim philosophy texts that a science major would take many hours on. Much also depends on your pre-existing knowledge. I still remind a friend that he took Spanish though he was fluent in Portuguese because he never had to work at all. Lazy ■■■■■■■.

Talk of 4.0 GPA is silliness. Even with grade inflation, there are A-'s.

Well said. At one time, I tried to take a philosophy class and very soon found that it is definitely not my strong point. No problem with the quiz/test (got 100 on it), but the paper is really not my thing. I ended up deciding to drop that course, but I was still interested in this topic enough to pick up the assigned book and read it during winter break. Most philosophy classes at Yale are definitely not a cakewalk for me.

I plan to major in Mechanical Engineering.

I’m stronger in the english/humanities area than in math and science… How is Mechanical Engineering in terms of getting decent grades? (of course, like any other future Yalie, a “decent” grade is an A- lol)

pink, i spoke with my regional admissions officer @ bulldog days who was a mechanical engineering major @ yale and he said the hardest course he ever took was thermodynamics (forget professors name), he got a B- on that.
