How difficult is Engineering at UT Austin!?

<p>Hi , I recently got accepted into the Cockrell School of Engineering for Spring 2011 (Chem E).</p>

<p>I was wondering what the "Engineering College Rules" were?</p>

<ul>
<li>As in, are we allowed to take a class more than once? In example, withdraw from a class and retake it the following semester?</li>
</ul>

<p>-Also, I have fulfilled most of my first year classes because Ive completed 1.5 years at UH so all the Calculus's (1,2,3) Gen Chem (1,2), Orgo (1) Physics (1) ive already endured. How hard can I expect the Chem E class to be? Will they all be weed out classes?</p>

<ul>
<li>I guess im just asking how generally difficult the classes are and If I am capable of doing well.</li>
</ul>

<p>Im going to post my stats so if you can gauge how well I am capable of handling this program, please do tell.</p>

<p>Sat Math:690 Act Math: 33</p>

<p>UH GPA 3.51
Note: My overall transfer GPA was a 3.78 due to CC classes hence my admission.</p>

<p>Is it realistic for me to do decent ( at least 3.0 GPA ) at Cockrell Chem E?</p>

<p>Or should I just try to stay at UH and try to maintain a 3.5?</p>

<p>Pkuforlife…Since your trying to go to UT austin does it mean that UH engineering is easy?</p>

<p>Its not easy, but with consistent effort, I believe you can get over a 3.5 GPA personally, whereas someplace like UT Austin might make you go above and beyond just to get a 3.0.</p>

<p>Ive decided to stick it out another semester here at UH and see how well I can do and re-apply for the fall semester where it would be a lot easier transition. </p>

<p>If I perform well, naturally I will be accepted again to UT and know that I have what it takes to finish up the program at UT.</p>

<p>If I perform poorly, then I probably wont even bother applying to UT because I wont be accepted regardless, and will finish up the degree at UH.</p>

<p>What do you guys think of this decision?</p>

<p>no pkuforlife you should come to UT for spring 2011! Trust me you will be able to handle it, the average graduating GPA is like a 3.05 for cockrell and you are obviously well above average so you will definitely be able to handle it. </p>

<p>Seriously why would you not come? You will be fine trust me. There are tons of resources and free tutors etc. to help you along and you have proven that you have the work ethic to make it</p>

<p>And every application cycle is different. Just because you got accepted this time does not mean you will be accepted if you apply again, even with a similar GPA. They have a different number of slots every time so I would not take that risk. Just come to austin you will love it</p>

<p>I agree with the others. If UT accepted you, they think you can do the work just fine. I can’t imagine passing up a UT engineering education! What a wonderful opportunity, that a lot of people would love to have.</p>

<p>I actually agree with all of you. I guess It is because of the influence of my parents. It seems that they dont think that spending an extra year at UT is worth it ( I would graduate in 5 years at UT and 4 at UH). Apparently in that time, I should be able to get my Masters is what their argument is.</p>

<p>Regardless, I am going to talk to them again tonight and try to push my decision.</p>
