How difficult is internally transferring to Engineering?

Hey guys,

I applied to UMaryland for the Regular Decision period for Computer Engineering, but instead was placed into the Letters and Sciences Program. I know that if I applied early, I without a doubt would have gotten a spot in CompE, but that's besides the point.

After doing some research, I have come to the conclusion that transferring from Letters and Sciences into the Engineering Dept is simple as long as you maintain above a 3.0 GPA, along with completion of the core classes. UMaryland is by far and away my top choice. I know that I can easily get above a 3.0 GPA, but Im making this thread just to make sure that I have the right information regarding the transfer process.

Can anyone who has gone through this process or is familiar with it confirm that internally transferring to Engineering is a relatively easy procedure?

I researched this when my son did not get into engineering and think it is easy to transfer if you have the right GPA. What I saw as possible drawbacks were (1) engineer majors get priority for intro engineering classes, so find out if you can’t get into them can you make up time over the summer or what and (2) engineer majors have the option to live in an engineer dorm (so easy to have study groups and support)-that’s totally individual preference though, you might want to live with a political science major.

You also now have to get a B or higher in physics I (used to be C minimum), not sure about the other gateways (calc II, chem 102/135, english101).
