I got accepted into UNC Biology but not into Honors College. How difficult is it to get into the Bio courses (BIOL 2300) and eventually into the Pre Med track? I heard many students get waitlisted and the Bio/Chem track is extremely selective and OOS students /Honors students get preference. Is the PreMed track assigned strictly based on GPA? Thanks for your help
Father of a graduating senior here. Son was accepted to undergrad as a “regular” student (not honors). He majored in Biology with a minor in Chem. Will be taking a year between grad and med school (applying this summer for Fall 22 admission). His “pre-med” counselors suggested that he (and most) undergrads take that year to get practical experience. There was no “acceptance” into a pre-med track and he had no difficulty getting his classes. it was EXTREMELY competitive in class/for grades though. If you aren’t super dedicated and willing to sacrifice your time, then unless you are incredibly quick/smart, it will be an arduous journey to become a solid med school candidate. He’s enjoyed it but it is a TON of work. I do believe Honors students get first pick of classes though - not 100% sure.
