I am an incoming freshman and I want to double major in CS, but I know it’s an impacted major. I emailed the CS advising
and they responded saying that I had to apply to the CSE program.
How difficult is it to get in as a continuing student?
Thanks for any advice
Your post is not clear what you are asking. So I try my best here. I think from what I’ve googling, there is a limit CS space this year, maybe 200 CS students. If you didn’t get in as freshman then you need to take 4 courses and do well as in getting 3.8 average, more like an A- average and then apply to the CSE program.
@DrGoogle Where did you see a 3.8 in the required courses for UCSD? Cal is “only” a 3.3 in the core required classes. (Earlier it had been 2.7 then 3.0 and now this year 3.3)
For Cal there is a hard GPA requirement. For UCSD there is not a hard requirement, as in nothing posted officially. So it depends on the application pool. But I’ve gathered these information by reading Quora, and Reddit from current UCSD students who managed to transferred successfully recently.
@DrGoogle , I’m an Econ/Math major and I want to double major. I was just wondering what they look for in applicants to the CSE program- is it just GPA?
The CSE program is VERY tough to get into and to get through the program. I don’t think you will have time to double major if you plan on doing CSE.
They rank based on grades in required prerequisite courses and admit students until they don’t have any spots left.
It’s mostly GPA on 3-4 courses. If you get As you most likely will get in.
