I am starting college this fall and decided not to apply to NYU because I do not feel ready to move to NYC just yet, though I know I want to end up there. I plan to attend the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor for undergrad. I have been told that it's very difficult to get into the big name schools for grad school. Is this true? Thinking ahead, I'm quite sure I will want to attend NYU for grad school.

I don't want to hijack your thread but I was wondering this too... also what kind of degree would you need to get into Wagner? just like any BS or BA?

bump bump.

High GPA, high GRE/GMAT/what-have-you, good recs, strong essays, solid extracurriculars, and passion. That’ll get you into any program.

i have a question. i don’t necessarily wanna do business undergrad, and thats why I applied to CAS instead of Stern, but I would like to attend business school for my grad years. Would it be looked down upon if I stayed in CAS then applied to Stern or other B-schools for grad, or should I try and transfer into Stern?

Graduate business programs tend to look for job experience (sometimes, if not frequently more than the undergrad degree). Oftentimes, there is a gap between undegrad work and attending grad school in business. So, the important thing is to look for good work experience in the business field.

Now the chances are you will get better business internships leading to solid jobs in business as a Stern student vs. as a CAS student. But that is not always the case. It depends on how strong of a resume you can show in the world of business before applying to business school. Generally, the Stern - MBA connection appears to be more direct. However, for some Stern students, the incentive to go on for a MBA may not be there if they land a lucrative or potentially lucrative business job straight out of Stern.

To put it clearer, I meant “undergrad studies” in first paragraph.
