How difficult is it to get into Pitt's Main

Im a sophomore atm and started slow with a 3.1 uw and 3.25 w but got it up to 3.29 uw and 3.44 w combining both sophomore and freshman year. My goal next year is to mantain a 3.6 - 3.8 uw and get my cumulative gpa to 3.4 uw and 3.6 w. I will probably apply early August/September, but how difficult is it to get into Pitt's Main??? I want to get into their Main Campus, not branch. On a scale of 1 - 10 how difficult would you say it is??

to assess your chances, check out this year’s results thread http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-pittsburgh/1222058-official-class-2016-acceptance-thread.html

also- Pitt publishes its freshman class profile here [University of Pittsburgh: Undergraduate Admissions & Financial Aid](http://www.oafa.pitt.edu/stats.aspx)

to make the most of your chances, apply early, and make sure to submit the optional essay, teacher recommendations, and activity resume. Good luck!

From last year’s (super intensive) common data set, Pitt said a few things:

1- Academic GPA is “Very Important” (highest) as a part of the application, along with Standardized Test Scores and the rigor of your curriculum
2- in terms of SAT: 77% of students got a 600+ Math, and 63% of students got a 600+ CR (98% 500+ Math, 98% 500+ CR).
3- in terms of GPA: 67% of students had a GPA of 3.75+, 83% had a GPA of 3.5+, and 93% had a GPA of 3.25+ (UW). But, only 10% of students had a GPA between 3.25 and 3.49.
4- The average weighted GPA of students last year was 3.91 (!)

That means the following:

Get your GPA up as high as possible, preferably above 3.5 UW and score really well on your SAT/ACT to balance out the lower GPA. Apply early and with extras (recs, essay, etc.) You aren’t guaranteed admission (especially if you’re in-state), so you’ll need to work for it.

How good is the Masters in Petroleum Program - Its the oldest but not in any of the rankings. Can Someone comment on this and the possible career opportunities

Study for your SATs now

You’re GPA is pretty low and even if you do improve it, your chances aren’t looking very good. Pitts average unweighted GPA is a 3.97 and they are known to be very particular about the GPA. I doubt a 3.6 would get you in unless you have an outrageously high SAT score.
