How hard is it to get into the business school? I am a good student here at my high school and pretty involved...I know how to balance my time well. Do you think it's difficult to get in? What kinds of students don't get in there?

you have to be ■■■■■■■■ to not get into the b school. pull a 3.7+, which is not hard by any means (atleast for econ/math/b-school classes since these are the only ones i’ve taken so far), and you’ll be fine.

So it’s not hard?
But isn’t the undergrad business school #1 or #2 (the other school being Wharton) in the nation?

No it’s not. But it’s still excellent.
At emory you apply to the college, go there for two years and then get a BBA from goizueta. I’m pretty sure

Or you can go through oxford.

Emory’s B-School in 2008 was ranked 5th in the country by Business Week, in 2009, Emory had fallen to 9th in the country.

^^^^ You dont know what you are talking about. Pre-B-School classes are curved so only a certain percentage make As/Bs/Cs. The Business Econ/Business Stats classes are pretty demanding, ALMOST as demanding as the pre-med classes at Emory.

no… i definitely do know what i’m talking about since i’ve already taken financial accounting and have already applied to b-school.

and b-econ/de-sci are jokes. you don’t even need to take those if you have ap credit.

My BAD. I definitely had two tabs opened up in my browser, one for Emory (Gozuieta) and the other being UVa (McIntire.) Thought we were discussing McIntire.

You need high SAT scores, not a 3.7+. You can have anything above a 3.0 and get in. Just get good grades in the prereq’s and have high test scores.

What? SAT scores are taken into consideration for the business school? I find that kind of silly…your high school record is taken into account when you’re a junior in college?

i’ve heard of kids getting waitlisted with a 3.5ish. with a 3.7 you can get in even with a crap essay/extracurriculars. and honestly, managing a 3.7 at emory isn’t difficult at all.

Probably is referring to emory admission

Forget about college juniors. Companies will ask you for your SAT scores. I agree with you that it’s ridiculous to use them as relevant information years after you took the test, but those are the breaks. Almost makes you wanna retake the SATs as a college graduate. How absurd is that image?

Also my friend got in with a 3.2~3.3, 1490 SAT so those waitlisted with a 3.5 probly either had bad grades in the prereqs or low test scores

Do they really take SAT scores? (also, ACTs too?) And is it really that easy to maintain a 3.7 at Emory?

As a current business school student, I have written the application and found how my peers who both made and did not make it actually did at emory. you do have to write down SAT score but it’s not a deciding factor.

average emory undergrad gpa, as far as i know, hovers around 3.2~3.3.

Every business class is bell-curved, so that the median grade would be between B+ and B (putting average gpa to 3.15). Although it’s not EASY to get an A, it’s not terribly difficult either.

To get into the business school, 3.45 of emory cumulative gpa (and at least Bs in all pre-requisite business class) and above will pretty much guarantee you in. GPA of between 3.35-3.44 would usually put you in waitlist, and anything below is a huge question mark, although they usually just waitlist everyone if you apply for admission into the fall semester, since that’s the last regular admission time for emory college students (rising juniors).

Goizueta really likes Oxford students, or so I’ve heard.

^^^ Why would they?

Most oxford students have lower standarized test scores than Emory students. So if Sat scores/acts scores are important, you should see more Emory College kids getting accepted than Oxford students.

Wait so they take into consideration your SAT ooo0000.

I got a low sat lol

Here’s the truth:

About 90% of those that apply to the b-school get in. That’s not because it’s not selective (it is). It’s just that most students who wouldn’t have gotten in if they applied, decided they’re no longer interested in business after having taken the pre-reqs. So the pre-reqs do a good job of seeing who’s ACTUALLY seriously interested in business and who’s not. If after taking the pre-reqs you want to enter the b-school, you pretty much can.

“easy” and “difficult” are so relative and anecdotal…

Your high school experience is not indicative either because the range of difficulty for HS curriculum is infinite.

As IC said, if you want to get in you should be able to cut it. Worst case scenario, if you don’t make it, then you can always go for the econ major, which also has great placement.
