How difficult is it to get into UNC after deferral?

I'm just wondering

same........

like...does anybody know the percentage of people who get into unc after getting deferred EA?

anybody out there?

anybody??? please----?

if you're deferred, you get put into the reg decision pile...they dont keep track of who gets in after being deferred since they simply mix your application in with the rest of them. so i dont think theres any way of finding out the percentage.

your best estimate of your chances would be the reg decision (aka "after deferral") acceptance rates--about 20% for OOS, and about 50% for IS.

are you sure that they do not keep track of the people that were deferred?

maybe im wrong, but i dont think they do

and plus, whether or not you were deferred has no effect on your reg decision acceptance or rejection. they said that they mix your app in--so no bias

I'm a freshman at UNC, and I only know of one guy that has gotten in on deferral, and one guy that got in off of the waitlist. Basically, the general feeling is that deferral is basically a rejection.

I don't think there are any numbers published on deferrals. I got deferred and had all A's the first semester and I still didn't get in. I wouldn't give up though. Call, email, find out what it is you need to do to improve your chances of acceptance.

well, I am not going to give up hope but I am hoping that I might have a shot since my scores have improved and my GPA has improved

My friend was deferred. He's taking subject tests in January that he can probably get 800/750+ on, getting a rec from the principal (he offered in September but it wasn't needed), and a rec from an alumni who knows him. I hope it works!

i found this from 3 years ago...

http://www.collegeconfidential.com/cgi-bin/discus/show.cgi?8/50379

it says 29% total accepted from being deferred EA. I do not know what the acceptance rate was three years ago, but thats not too many percentage points below the average acceptance rate

whoaa so they do keep track..

sorry guys, gave you wrong info >__<

yeah, i'm retaking my SAT in jan. b/c i KNOW that my cr score was probably the reason i got deferred....

also, they say that no additional recommendation letters are required but i know a man who is on the pharmacy selection committee @ unc and was the 2004 alumni recipient of the UNC National Service Award... should i try to get a letter from him???

only if he knows you well enough to write something thats not generic

shoud i send SAT II's scores if they are bad....like in the 600's?

i seriously dont think SAT II scores matter...in the UNC chatroom, i asked about SAT II's and they told me that they're not considered. which is weird b/c the admissions rep said to send them if available

ssshh...i got a 550 in bio and a 540 in spanish..and i got a likely letter/accepted. 600's arent shabby

no worries!

Math L2 SAT II is required for math placement after admission. The standard line is SAT IIs are not considered for admissions decision purposes, but I think strong scores could somewhat enhance an otherwise weak application. I've heard OOS candidates have strong focus placed on writing skills and essays by the admissions committee, so it may be better to submit killer supplemental essays or writing samples rather than extra scores or recommendations.
