My teachers make it seem impossible... What are some good tips for the reading/science sections? I hate those sections so badly; they screw me up.

well it depends where your scores were originally. It’s definitely easier, say, you have a 20 and increase to 25, but a 31 to a 36?? that’s WAY tougher.

Don’t worry, if you have time, you’ll do fine… i went from a 19(cold) to 29 (studied abit). I’m hoping if i study more to get a 34+

science is not easy to improve unless you happen to know the topics they ask very well

math and writing are the easiest…study topics in those well and you can expect to see an increase in a matter of days (especially writing since the questions asked are so repetitive)

I improved a 23 to a 31 in 18 months.

It went up gradually. First from 23 to 25, then to 26, then to 27, then 29, then 31. Never went down.

Apr 2007-December 2008

Lol at taking it 6 times.

I jumped 5 points from Feb of freshman year to April of sophomore year.

Didn’t prep extensively, either. Just two practice tests.

My advice is to pay attention in class. English/Reading are all taught in school, Math needs a little outside prep but is otherwise fine, and if you’re in lab science at school for a semester you’ll see your Science shoot up because of constantly writing/reading lab reports.

I went from 30 to 33 to 35 without studying for any of them. your teacher is wrong =)

Don’t take this the wrong way, but it is going to be significantly harder for you to go from 29 to 34 than it was for you to go from 19 to 29.

none taken… i know it is lol ;P

I have gotten a 25 the two times I have taken it. I am trying to get to a 28. Do you reccommend the study guides, I haven’t tried studying using those.

Is it hard to go from 23 to 26-28?I took 2 practice tests from red book so far(one section every day)on forst one i got 23 composite on 2nd 22(went down 7 points in reading).Taking 3rd right now so far on english and math i got 27 and 26.With this kind of improvement will it be possible to hit the ranges(that i mentioned earlier) on real ACT test?

To go from like 24 to 29 is pretty easy, but to go from 36 to 41 is much harder.

Haha @ maatthheew’s comment.

0< score <37

Haha, it’s a joke.
Chill Coolbrezze.

ok, so I’ve not taken the test yet, but this is my understanding of the scoring.

If you’re trying to get from a 20 to a 25, that’s really easy, but from a 29 to a 34 would be a lot harder to accomplish.

As for reading and science, read the questions first! The passages can often muddle you with useless information.

I went from a 26 (on my first try) to a 31 on my third try with a 30 in between. Just have to do some practice, and focus on your weak sections. If I could do it its definitely possible for anyone.

I’m really hoping for a 5 increase for my Feb ACT…I dont think its hard. The week before…sat down for about 20 hours in 5 days, and studied grammar and stuff. I’m really hoping it pays off since I got 20 eng 29 read 29 math 25 sci 26 comp. It seemed easier2nd time around and a 30+ would help.
