There are nothing wrong with parties and as long as they are not excess. My daughter knew somebody who joined a Christian frat because he didn’t want to drink. I think toward the end she did see him holding a can of beer. Lol.
OP’s original post was asking how to join a sorority, and within a month she was trying to convince everyone not to join. Had she actually joined one during that month it would be a different story, but she did nothing but observe some people who were not in the sorority drinking near a sorority house on a campus she decided not to attend.
Join one, don’t join one, but OP’s advice is not worth anything to students going to other schools.
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
Feel free to continue the conversation, but be advised that the OP will not be returning.
Nor is it the same thing as rushing a purely social frat either…
Missouri Fraternity raises $132,000 in a weekend for cancer research:

LOL I didn’t mean to suggest social frats are closer to heroin abuse; my school doesn’t have social frats (only pre-professional and charity ones) and I didn’t want to use a designation I didn’t actually understand/fully know about.
Perhaps we can speak on even broader terms:
Extracurricular involvement has nothing to do with heroin (unless you’re in a Criminal Justice society or something)
@preamble1776 - maybe SSDP? (http://ssdp.org)

Let’s put the heroin analogy to bed once and for all. It is what is known in debate and logic circles as a “false equivalence”. From Wikipedia
In this case the logical and apparent equivalence is that in both the heroin case and the Greek organization case one is trying something new, but the inconsistency is the failure to take into account the dramatic difference in likely consequences of that experiment. God and/or evolution gave us a brain sophisticated enough to have memory and reason so that we can differentiate between trying something that we know is almost certain to rewire our brain and quite possibly cause very premature death vs. far less consequential choices that we might want to experience before making a decision as to our willingness to pursue that activity.
I knew it was a logical fallacy but I forgot the name (I was thinking along the lines of “false analogy”) – apparently AP English didn’t stick with me as much as I had thought.
Hey, preamble1776, the students at Chicago are in the “play hard” category, too! Just last week a group got together and read a chapter of Thucydides that wasn’t assigned. Talk about a blast!
Given how this thread isn’t even remotely worthy of being a “featured discussion,” it might be nice if somebody would link to a thread that actually IS helpful to someone considering sorority life.
Or am I crazy to believe that the CC community is capable of a thoughtful, nuanced discussion about the pros and cons of Greek Life?
Unfortunately lucie in my 10 years on here I’ve pretty much never seen a thread on Greek life that didn’t bring out the haters (for lack of a better word)
I recommend the forums on greekchat instead
Now that made me actually LOL!
This depends, how hot are you? Seriously, that would effect difficulty.
How hot/attractive are you, OP?
@preamble1776 Appreciate the heads up fam
