How Difficult is Princeton?

To parents, current students and alumni,

  1. How many hours do you spend studying/doing homework?
  2. How difficult is it to maintain a good gpa?
  3. Do you know anyone on academic probation?
  4. How difficult is it to fail?
  5. Does the student atmosphere lean competitive or collaborative?
  6. How stressful was/is your workload in comparison to your high school workload?
  7. Would you say it is harder to get into Princeton or to stay in Princeton?
  8. Would you say it is harder or easier than Harvard, Yale and Stanford?

For context, please include ur major and the type of high school you went to I.e competitive private school, low achieving public school, etc.

@am7311 (what does your name mean?)

  1. Depends on your concentration. My BSE son is studying ORFE and is studying 4-5 hours a day, including weekends.
  2. Difficult with BSE, little less with AB. Son earned a high school 4.0 (mostly all AP student) getting a 3.5 with intense studying and taking 5 classes per semester. Son was an 36 ACT excellent student.
  3. No
  4. Pretty hard. If you try at all you can earn a C.
  5. Collaborative at Princeton.
  6. Fairly stressful, but taking 5 classes for BSE. AB's four classes would be less stressful.
  7. Much harder to get in. For BSE classes easy to get a C, hard to get a B, extremely difficult to get an A.
  8. Cannot compare, but if you examine grade distributions at Harvard vs. Princeton (look up gradeinflation website) you'll see Princeton average is lower than Harvard, Yale and Stanford. If medical student this might be a concern, otherwise don't worry about it.

Any of the schools listed will be difficult. Where do you want to be next 4 years? What do you want to study? These are the important questions…
