How difficult is the CAS Presidential Scholars Program to get in?

I called the admissions office to ask wheter my "CAS Scholarship" indicated on my FA award (which was pretty crappy due to our income) meant i was in the program..she said no, that was just a scholarship and all the scholars notifications were sent out.

So my question is, how hard is it exactly to be in the "Top 5 %" of NYU's CAS entering class? I would imagine stern haveing the most numbers up there, but i didn't think CAS would be all that competitive.

Quick Stats:
SAT: 2190. 770 M 700 CR 720 W
GPA: 96/100
Most Ap's in school-6. A 4 and 5 on 2 exams so far.
various clubs, 2 varsity sports
research, programs, etc.

Also, looking through older posts from previous years, i noticed that some people learned about their invitation to the program in may or june...is that because nyu takes the invitations of those who decline nyu and give it to the next person on the list?

I know i can apply sophmore year, (and i might, depending on several things) but i was just curious.

Thanks!

I’m not sure, but I just got an email telling me I got into the program. I was surprised because, correct me if I’m wrong, but I was under the impression that NYU gave out merit scholarships and I didn’t get any. I would have seriously considered NYU had I gotten a scholarship.

vab,

Unfortunately, not all CAS Presidential Scholars got money, as was discussed quite a bit last year. You get some perks like trips abroad or domestically for a low fee (maybe like $300 out of pocket) during the winter break and honors classes, in addition to mentoring by a professor? It is too bad since these Scholars have obviously stood out academically to get the honor.
