So I understand that if someone applies to an impacted major, they have to go through an additional screening process if they get accepted into the school. I also understand that the screening process focuses heavily on academics. I'm applying to bioengineering, which is an impacted major, and I'm wondering what SAT + subject tests scores and GPA would be sufficient.

I feel like getting admitted into impacted majors gets tougher as the years pass. Not really sure about an average GPA/SAT cutoff but my cousin applied to bioengineering for class of 2015 (this year) and didn’t get in. She had a 4.0 UW GPA (~4.3 UC GPA) and a 2100 SAT score. Yikes. It might just be a one-time case though so don’t let that get your hopes down =D

Take Bioengineering course in city college to show your interest.
I did it in 10th grade and got into Bioengineering-Biotechnology with UC GPA 4.17. It was 2 years ago.
Major is hard, but I am happy.

do the math 2 subject test and maybe a science that you are interested in (physics would be best if youre solid in it, bio, etc). Even though sat 2’s arent used for admission to the uc, they look at those to see if you meet the department cut-offs for the major.
