How difficult to raise composite 1 or 2 points?

My son has taken the ACT and did OK. Composite of 30. Not a bad score but we know he is capable of a better score.

Math - 35
English - 33
Science - 28
Reading - 22

The reading is what killed him and he has been working on that. From everyone he has talked to, including an ACT tutor, the science section varies the most and is the hardest to predict.

His target is a 32 composite. A 31 should be doable just by raising his reading score. He does get better reading scores in practice tests (28-31) and hopefully they will carry over to the real thing this weekend.

I know as the scores get higher increasing even a point becomes more difficult. Are we expecting too much for him to increase from a 30 to 32?

He will take it again probably for the final time in June.

Your son’s actual average score is 29.5. Any 4 points increase in all sections combined would raise the composite by 1. If he can achieve his practice score in reading in a real test while keeping the other ones unchanged, he will already get that 1-2 point increase in composite. My daughter went up from 31 to 35 in practice score after doing 20 or so timed practices. So it is very feasible for your son to increase his composite by 1-2 points.
