I understand that it is difficult to transfer to majors that are impacted like computer science and engineering. What about transferring within the college of business? DS will likely declare marketing as a major w/ maybe a minor in music. If he is accepted to Cal Poly and decides after a year that he wants to transfer to Economics or Finance, would that still be difficult? In all honesty, he’s really not sure what he wants to major in.
Changing majors within the same college should not be much of a problem just follow the guidelines on the link:
http://www.cob.calpoly.edu/studentservices/changing-major/
@sleeplessmom1 Cal Poly has a Business Administration degree with concentrations such as marketing , finance, accounting that are usually declared sophomore or junior year so no problem moving between these concentrations. Economics is a different major within Orfalea College of Business requires change of major but likely not difficult to move from Business Admin to Economics within the college. Good Luck to your son.
Thanks! I didn’t realize that marketing was a concentration and not a major. Should I assume then that the MCA score cut off for admission would not be the same for Business Admin degree vs. Economics?
Business admin has about 5800+ applicants with about 1500 admits and around a 28% predicted acceptance rate.
Economics has about 845+ applicants with about 160 admits with around a 21% predicted acceptance rate. The MCA score cut off’s would probably higher for Business Admin just based on sheer application #'s.
As far as I know, there are no published MCA score cutoffs, only what has been reported on this website for the last few years.
OK. Thanks again.
Gumbymom- on 9/6/16 you posted that Econ had an admission rate of 66%. But in this thread you state it is 21%. Just wondering what the difference is as my son is interested in applying for Business at SLO.
@Helismother: it is 31%. I accidentally used the transfer applicant data instead of first time Freshman in the calculation.
Sorry for the misinformation and thanks for catching the mistake.
Thanks @Gumbymom. Cal poly seems to be harder and harder to get into every year. Fall 2014 average admission stats for Business was 3.90 GPA and 27.9 for ACT for Fall 2015 jumped to 4.02 GPA and 30 for ACT.
