how difficult would it be to transfer here with my GPA of 3.85 from this past semester at Hofstra University and a GPA of 3.8 from summer courses at UCLA? i've completed enough credits where they won't look at my high school transcript (which is a relief, because my high school grades were horrible!)

thanks in advance!

Testing for understanding..

Have you completed your entire freshman year at hofstra or just one semester?

I gather that you would be looking to transfer at the end of your sophomore year at Hofstra.

Contrary to what you think, Dartmouth and other selective schools will still look at your entire record; high school transcript, SAT scores, SAT II scores and your college work because it helps to present a whole picture of you as an applicant before making a decision.

Theyt still look at high school, but if your college grades are great (which they are) and your SAT is high enough you have a chance. I recommend applying to the top state schools though like UNC (particularly easy to transfer into comparatively) as they focus much less on high school than the top privates.

i just checked the Dartmouth transfer admissions website and they do in fact look at your high school transcript, which is strange because the other schools i'm considering (i.e. Brown) don't look at your high school grades if you have more than 30 college credits (i have 33.) some look at your SAT scores though.

i took the Fall 2005 semester off in order to work. i have completed the Spring 2006 semester at Hofstra, and i am halfway through my summer courses at UCLA which will be equivalent to a semester. also, i took classes at a community college while i was in high school, which i forgot to mention... that's how i've accumulated 33 credits.

thanks for your input.

IMO Dartmouth is very hard to transfer to.
Last year, I applied along with a few others from CC. I think only 1 person got in: Darkrisingstar
he/she was coming out of Amherst with terrific stats though,
and i knew others who had great stats coming from good schools and were all denied.
But the difficulty of transfer shouldn't discourage from applying right? you don't apply just because a school is easy to get in to :), there must be something else that attracts you :D.
There's a lot at Dartmouth i really like, and so after 2 rejections, i am applying for my 3rd and final time this year :D
Best of luck my friend

Newly is right. I transferred into Dartmouth and it seemed like the people who got in all had terrific transcripts with very few loopholes. If you have a weak h.s. record and only average SATs but a strong college GPA, I think you'll have a much easier time getting into a place like Cal, UNC, UVA etc than a place like Dartmouth.
