My daughter is applying to hotel school with 34 ACT/2270 SAT and is fourth generation (ggp, gp, p) but worried about lack of hotel experience. Can anyone comment on degree of experience necessary, whether restaurant experience suffices, whether more than server type position needed while in high school, etc? I think getting into Arts likely but she has heart now set on hotel school.

i think restaurant experience is great! also, just being a server is good as well. Especially for a high school student at a restaurant, it is difficult to be something more than a busboy or waiter/waitress.

thanks--she is very interested but comes at it from a business/finance perspective and hospitality industry seems a good avenue

Having "her heart set on Hotel" is a good thing. They are looking for passion and interest in the field --rather than "apply to Hotel cuz you don't need the same level of stats."

It's a great program and although the program is quite specific in terms of required courses, it's still CORNELL with all the opportunities that implies.

yeah, the 85% of hotelies that have hospitality experience includes restaurant experience. I worked as a hostess/waitress at a japanese restaurant =]
