How do admissions view Community College Classes?

How do admissions view classes taken at a CC while in high school? Are they viewed similarly to AP classes?

It may depend on the school you are applying to (some have higher or lower opinions of CCs than others).

It may also depend on the specific courses. CCs may have courses at the remedial level (high school level, below AP level), college frosh level (approximately AP level in many cases, though some common college courses are faster paced than the similar high school AP courses usually are), and college soph level (more advanced than AP level).

@ucbalumnus What would you consider Calc 1 / Calc 2 to be classified under? Or would it change by each school?

AP calculus BC approximates college calculus 1 and 2.

@ucbalumnus But would they be considered more or less advanced than AP? Also, if I take Calc 1/2 at CC then should i even take AP Calc at my HS. What will look better for admissions?

College calculus 1 and 2 and high school AP calculus BC would be at the same level. There is no reason to take both (although if you take the college courses, you could also take the AP test in cause you have concerns about other colleges accepting the college courses for transfer credit).

If your high school only offers AP calculus AB, that would be a slower paced version, generally seen as equivalent to just calculus 1.

What colleges are you speaking of?

@albert69 Undergrad business schools: NYU stern, UT Austin Mccombs, USC Marshall for example

Calculus 1&2 would be equivalent to Calc BC. You could then take the Calc BC exam if you want credit - although many students at highly selective colleges in that situation “repeat” calc 2 to have a relatively easier start of college and to learn the subject more in-depth than previously. Both classes would be considered equivalent to a faster-paced AP class.
