How do CC courses factor into GPA?

I've asked an adviser about this and he gave me a very vague answer. I'm taking a math course at a community college (equivalent to Calc 1 at USC) that I'm doing for my major. I've heard from some people that the grade you get transfers over to your USC GPA and others have told me that it's separate? What's the exact scenario with the grades you transfer from CC courses? Thank you!

When you get to USC, your transfer GPA is separate from your USC GPA (calculated only from courses you take at USC). Here’s what the USC brochure says:

“Your transfer GPA is different than the GPA
of the courses you take at USC. The transfer
GPA and your USC GPA are kept separate
until it is time to determine if you are eligible
to graduate and earn graduation honors, as
described in the Catalogue.”

So basically, you have 2 GPAs. Your new USC-earned GPA will be used to determine Dean’s List honors each semester. The only tricky part comes when they calculate graduation honors. At that point, I’ve heard your prior CC GPA can bring your average down (if it was lower than USC GPA) but not bring it up (if it’s higher) to qualify for Latin honors. Maybe others can explain better!
