How do CLEP Exams Really Work?

Is this guy right? Can I really start taking them in high school, or will they expire after a while?

I found out which schools take which exams but how do the credits work? Are they transfer credits? Are they dual credits? Has anyone done this before and if so did you do it in high school and how old were you? You can’t really do it in middle school, can you?

CLEP scores are good for 20 years and there is no age limit to take them, so I guess you could take them in middle school.

Do they count towards your limit for transfer credits and is there any penalty besides a 6-month wait if you fail one? I took US History online last summer with my older brother so I think I’ve used up 3 of my transfer credits already.
