How do colleges get your SAT scores?

Do you need to buy official reports from CollegeBoard and send your scores in? Or can you just print your online scores off and give it to colleges?

You need official reports.

When you take your SAT you get 4 free reports. Use them well! But if you want any more than that, you’ll have to pay CollegeBoard $15 per score report.

If I submit the scores like that, do the colleges immediately get my scores or is there a waiting period?

There’s a small waiting period, although I don’t think it’s more than a few days. The scores are sent pretty much when you order them, but it might take a while for the university to process those results and match them up to your application. Hence, a waiting period.
