How do colleges look at a "gap semester"?

During my freshmen year, I took 6 credits in spring because I wanted to work and just get away from school for a while. (I regret doing it now)

I'm a sophomore looking to transfer and just want to know if they will look at my gap semester negatively. Applying to vtech, uva, usc, maryland-college park.

I have completed 33credits and an additional 18 after spring. Have a 3.53 GPA.

I don’t see why it would hurt you. Many students take gap years (or semesters) and do just fine.

That’s great to hear!

But got a concern. For most top colleges, aren’t they expecting their students to be full-time students? I’m behind by 1 semester worth of credits. So when colleges see my transfer app, would they be likely to accept someone else because he had more credits than me?
