How Do Colleges Use The ACT Writing Score During Admissions

I recently got a 34 composite score on the new ACT, but I noticed that my writing score was a pretty low 26 (93rd percentile). I’d like to say I am a good writer; I have taken honors English courses (got all As) and got a 5 on my English 3 AP test. How will colleges look at this low score? Will the UCs total the writing and the composite score to make one definitive score? Is this writing score something that will really impact my chances in top universities?

Thanks

Not at all. It is mostly ignored.

I’m just going to point out the conflicting statements there… While no one can say with full authority what all schools do, most don’t pay much attention to the writing score. And a 93rd %ile won’t keep you out of any place.
