Hello! I am a junior that is going to start working soon and I am also doing full IB. My parents want me to work in their restaurant 5 days a week (M-TH 4pm-9:30 pm & Sun 11pm-6pm). The thing for me is that I am not afraid of not getting my hw done since I start my hw late anyways but how do you think colleges will view my work schedule?
It would be a positive for sure. Several admissions officers told my daughter that they’re seeing fewer and fewer applicants that work outside jobs.
That is a lot. Yes, the work would be viewed as a positive (similar to an EC activity). But keep in mind that the first thing colleges generally look at is your transcript including GPA so in a perfect world your first priority should be to do your best in school. If you don’t think your parents schedule will allow you to sufficient time for homework/studying then see if you can work out a different work schedule that can satisfy everyone’s needs.
A lot depends on the circumstances – if your parent’s need your help to keep their restaurant afloat that is one thing – if they think you should be helping out there more then they may be open to revising the work schedule to better fit your HS demands.
