Hello I was wondering how college admissions view working high school students who regularly work 30+ hour work weeks. I just finished junior year of HS and have taken 13 ap classes so far and another 4 next year. I have about a 4.35 weighted gpa/ 3.77UW and a 1350 sat. Will my high volume of work in addition to good grades help improve my chances of admission to a state school such as UF and FSU (I live in Florida and staying in state)
Paid work is an extracurricular. How colleges value that compared to other extracurriculars depends on the college. For example, a college that emphasizes access to students from lower income families may give it more preference than one which favors students from higher income families.
You regularly worked 30+ hours a week in high school? That is very commendable, and it will definitely look great with colleges!
UF does use holistic admissions, and they do consider work experience, very positively. It’s hard to spend time in other EC’s, when you have to work 30+ hours a week. Make sure that’s clear in your application.
You still want to make sure you get in your 100 hours of volunteer work for Bright Futures (and because UF and FSU also value volunteer work).
Yes I’ve been working on those this summer haha alongside 3 jobs
