How do commuters handle college?

Thinking about going to CUNY Baruch which is like a 30 minute bus ride away. I'd save money from not dorming(Even if I dorm, I'd still have to pay for subway transportation since the dorms are 60 streets away). Is it hard to make friends and trying to get a schedule where you're not stuck doing nothing between classes?

Why not study between classes?

I go to a commuter school. I usually just go to the library between classes and work on homework or go to the gym and workout, it’s not a big deal to have a lot of time between classes. If you join clubs you shouldn’t have any problems making friends.

I’d rather stay in library…

I commute as well and what I do is make my classes right after each other so I won’t have a break, unless you want a break. And for the friend thing it can be somewhat hard, but a lot of my friends are commuters as well.

If there’s a lot of commuters, it’s not that hard to make friends. Everyone is in the same boat and so events are convenient for commuters. Between classes you just hit the library or grab something to eat.
I commute at a non-commuter school so unfortunately I don’t feel part of the “student community”. Also the students have a huge stigma against “locals” which I doubt you’ll encounter at Baruch.
