How do Courses in Progress/First Quarter Grades/Midyear Grades factor into college acceptance?

I’ve been getting conflicting answers from everybody who I talked to about this, so I decided to come to the one and only CC.

When you apply to college (Both EA/ED & RD), do colleges ask for Courses in Progress, First Quarter Grades, and/or Midyear Grades?

I’m aware that they ask for them after admission, along with your final transcript, but I’m wondering if they ask for some sort of senior year grades before admission, to affect your chances.

Additionally, our school doesn’t have quarterly grades, only semester, so would I just give my current grades in the class, or not at all? Also, if I do submit grades, would that factor into my GPA, changing what I apply with, or would my GPA be only until Junior year?

Lastly, I’ve heard from some places that when applying RD, colleges see first semester grades. However, our school gives us our first semester transcript on February 1, which is already too late for a lot of schools.

This is all very new to me, so any help and/or advice is much appreciated.

Courses in Progress are generally listed on the app. Most colleges ask for mid-year grades. Whether the college wants first quarter grades depends upon the college.

Colleges ask for mid-year grades when they are available; no US HS on a semester system will have mid-year grades at the time of application, so the GC sends them later. For RD, these grades are still considered.

The college may ask for an unofficial update, but again, it really depends upon the college.
